Here are some questions that many people have asked over the many years of Midwest Karate. We understand you have questions and probably more than are listed below.  01  What style of karate do you offer?

We practice Shotokan Karate. This is the most practiced karate style in the world. Our roots come from the esteemed JKA, ITKF and JKS.

 

 

 

 02  Do I have to compete to advance?

Not in the least bit. Though Marr Sensei has had many athletes compete Internationally and domestically, only ten percent are actual competitors. Advancement of belt levels has no correlation to competition. You are only observed by your own capabilities.

 

 

 

 03  What ages can study karate?

​

Almost all ages can learn the art of karate. We make if fun and very safe to learn. We have instructors that specialize in instructing ages 5 - 12 and we have had people start in their 70's!

 

 

 

 04  Is karate good for Self-Defense?

Midwest Karate is ideal for learning Self-Defense. Marr Sensei has over 60 years of experience, he will explain situations and multiple ways to avoid or get out of those situations. Being good does not come close, he is the best!

 

 

 05  Can I meet other people?

​

The one thing many new students comment on is how nice the people are. There are many activities that happen inside and outside the Dojo (training hall) that you cannot help but meet people.
